Dear Colleagues,

Last night someone tried to steal my winch; all they got was the hook off the wire rope ...

Following recent winch thefts where the winch is unbolted an then the wires are cut, I had 2 bolts spot welded from the winch to the winch bumper and then 2 further bolts from the bumper to the chassis spot welded.

Not sure what else I can do.....so be warned as this seems to be increasing....

Alan,

Sorry to hear that theiving buggers are around your way.

Glad they got away with nothing.

Spot welding the bolts is the only way to be 100%  secure.

Regards

Paul

Hi all

Sorry to hear all your problems with light fingered idiots. Mine is parked on the road all the time, so I'm getting a bit paranoid now. I fitted the skytag tracker/recovery device after the offer we had before christmas, and smeared smart water everywhere too.

I'll be looking into either spot welding or acquiring some of these sophisticated bolts to the winch soon.

Otherwise, I've compliled a list of accessories and options for my D3. I'll post it in the 2008/9 challenge area under vehicles. I'd be interested if those of you 08/09 owners have any comments or ammendments to make to it. Otherwise I recommend a copy goes to your insurer with lots of pics. to back everything up. Adrian flux cover me, and seemed to undestand the concept of a G4 vehicle, but you can guarantee when it vanishes from outside my house, I'd end up with a right battle replacing everything I'd lost.

stay safe

Sorry to hear that guys, not nice at all.

Just to give some advice, I was fully covered on the insurance with Sureterm. They provided the winch, control, rope, winch cover and also paid for the fitting costs at a Land Rover dealer.

Either special bolts or welding, we should use all the means to help prevent this.

I like the idea of those Bryce bolts and as my wife spends a fair bit of time in the US I could look to get a set brought back. Anyone know off the top of their head what size / length of bolts are used on the winch and its cradle ?
